An Essential Tension

“I want to work at higher and higher power… safely” -Greg Glassman

In this video, Greg Glassman discusses “threshold training.” Threshold training marks the line between completely safe movement and higher power output. If you can do an absolutely perfect deadlift, but it takes you 30 seconds to complete, is that our ideal scenario? No. On the other hand, if you can do a deadlift in 0.25 seconds, but you’re in danger of herniating a disc… well, then, we’ve achieved high power at the expense of safety.

After you’ve learned the basics of a movement, and you’ve had time to practice it soundly and with consistency, then it’s time to start threshold training. Threshold training is the way to become more fit. Stronger. More powerful. Better endurance. Threshold training is the essential tension between safe and powerful. Let’s find that line today.
